Quantifiers: Some, Any, Much, Many, A lot of
Quantifiers are words that express quantity. They go before nouns.
Some and Any
- Some: affirmative sentences and polite offers. “I have some friends.” “Would you like some tea?”
- Any: negative and questions. “I don’t have any money.” “Do you have any questions?”
Much and Many
- Much: with uncountable nouns (money, water, time). “How much water do you drink?”
- Many: with countable nouns (books, chairs, students). “How many students are in the class?”
A lot of / Lots of
Both countable and uncountable. Used in affirmative sentences.
“There are a lot of books.” “There is lots of water.”
