Nouns: Common and Proper
A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.
1. Common Nouns
Common nouns name general things, people, or places. They start with a small letter (unless at the beginning of a sentence).
Examples: city, boy, book, school, dog, table, teacher.
- “The boy is reading a book.”
- “My teacher is kind.”
2. Proper Nouns
Proper nouns name specific people, places, or things. They always start with a capital letter.
Examples: Algeria, Ahmed, London, Monday, January, Islam.
- “Ahmed lives in Algiers.”
- “I was born in June.”
