Prepositions of Place: In, On, At, Under

Prepositions of place tell us where something is.

In

Inside a space, area, or container. Also with cities, countries.

• “The book is in the bag.”
• “I live in Algeria.”
• “She is in the classroom.”

On

On a surface, on a street, on the phone, on TV.

• “The cat is on the table.”
• “My house is on Main Street.”
• “I saw it on TV.”

At

At a specific point or location, at an address.

• “I am at school.”
• “She is at the door.”
• “He is at 15 Ahmed street.”

Under

Below or beneath something.

• “The dog is under the table.”
• “The cat is hiding under the bed.”

Other prepositions

• Next to / Beside: “The bank is next to the post office.”
• Between: “The school is between the mosque and the hospital.”
• Behind: “The garden is behind the house.”
• In front of: “He is standing in front of the class.”
