Wh-Questions: Who, What, Where, When, Why, How

Wh-questions are used to ask for specific information. They begin with a question word.

Question Words

Who: asks about a person. Ex: Who is your teacher? Who lives here?
What: asks about a thing or action. Ex: What is your name? What do you do?
Where: asks about a place. Ex: Where do you live? Where is the school?
When: asks about time. Ex: When do you wake up? When is the exam?
Why: asks about a reason. Ex: Why are you late? Why do you study English?
How: asks about manner or condition. Ex: How are you? How do you go to school?
How many: asks about quantity. Ex: How many students are there?
How much: asks about price/amount. Ex: How much is this?
