The Present Perfect Tense

The present perfect connects the past with the present. It is used for past actions with present relevance, life experiences, and recent news.

Formation

Affirmative: Subject + have/has + past participle. Ex: I have visited Paris. She has finished her homework.
Negative: Subject + have/has + not + past participle. Ex: They haven t arrived yet.
Question: Have/Has + subject + past participle? Ex: Have you ever been to London?

Uses

1. Life experiences: I have visited France.
2. Recent actions: She has just left.
3. Past actions with present result: He has lost his keys (he can t enter).
4. With for/since: I have lived here for 5 years.

Past Participle

Regular: +ed (played, visited). Irregular: go→gone, eat→eaten, see→seen, write→written.

Exercises

Complete: I … (visit) Algiers. She … (not eat) lunch yet. … you … (see) that film? How long … you … (study) English.
