Adverbs of Frequency

Adverbs of frequency tell us how often something happens. They are used with the present simple tense.

Common Adverbs of Frequency

100% Always: I always brush my teeth before bed.
90% Usually: She usually walks to school.
75% Often: They often play football after school.
50% Sometimes: He sometimes watches TV in the evening.
25% Occasionally: We occasionally go to the cinema.
10% Seldom / Rarely: I seldom eat fast food.
0% Never: She never smokes.

Position in the sentence

After the verb to be: He is always late. They are never angry.
Before other verbs: I always wake up early. She sometimes reads before bed.

Exercises

Put the adverb in the correct place: I (often) play tennis. She is (always) happy. They (never) eat meat. He (sometimes) goes to the library.
