Grammar: The Imperative

Used for orders, instructions, advice, requests. Affirmative: base verb (Stand up. Open the door.) Negative: Don’t + verb (Don’t run. Don’t be late.)

Uses: Orders (Sit down!), Instructions (First, mix the flour and eggs), Advice (Eat healthy food), Requests (Please help me), Warnings (Be careful!)

Example – Making a sandwich: Take two slices of bread. Put butter on the bread. Add cheese. Close the sandwich. Enjoy!

Exercise: Write 5 instructions for making tea using the imperative.
