Introduction:

Expressing opinion is an essential skill for communication and exams. Whether you are writing an essay, participating in a debate, or taking the BAC exam, knowing the right phrases to express, agree, or disagree with an opinion is crucial.

1. Expressing Your Opinion (التعبير عن الرأي)

Formal expressions:
– In my opinion, … (في رأيي)
– From my point of view, … (من وجهة نظري)
– As far as I am concerned, … (بقدر ما يخصني)
– I believe that … (أعتقد أن)
– I think that … (أظن أن)
– It seems to me that … (يبدو لي أن)
– I am convinced that … (أنا مقتنع بأن)

Informal expressions:
– If you ask me, … (إذا سألتني)
– I reckon that … (أحسب أن)
– To me, … (بالنسبة لي)

2. Agreeing (الموافقة)

Strong agreement:
– I totally agree. (أوافق تماماً)
– Absolutely! / Exactly! (بالضبط)
– That’s exactly what I think. (هذا بالضبط ما أعتقده)
– You are absolutely right. (أنت محق تماماً)
– I couldn’t agree more. (لا أستطيع الموافقة أكثر)

Partial agreement:
– I agree to some extent, but … (أوافق إلى حد ما، لكن)
– That’s partly true, however … (هذا صحيح جزئياً، لكن)
– I see your point, but … (أرى وجهة نظرك، لكن)

3. Disagreeing (الرفض / عدم الموافقة)

Polite disagreement:
– I see things differently. (أرى الأمور بشكل مختلف)
– I’m afraid I disagree. (أخشى أنني لا أوافق)
– I respect your opinion, but … (أحترم رأيك، لكن)
– That’s a valid point, but have you considered … (هذه نقطة صحيحة، لكن هل فكرت في)

Strong disagreement:
– I don’t agree at all. (لا أوافق مطلقاً)
– That’s not true. (هذا غير صحيح)
– I completely disagree. (أنا لا أوافق تماماً)
– You can’t be serious. (لا يمكن أن تكون جاداً)

4. Asking for Opinions (طلب الرأي)

– What do you think about …? (ما رأيك في)
– How do you feel about …? (كيف تشعر حيال)
– What’s your opinion on …? (ما هو رأيك في)
– Do you agree that …? (هل توافق على أن)

BAC-Style Exercises:

Exercise 1: Complete with the appropriate expression

1. A: “Smoking should be banned in public places.”
B: “_______ . It causes health problems for everyone.” (Strong agreement)
2. A: “Social media is completely harmful.”

Answers:

Exercise 2: Write a short paragraph (BAC-style)

“Some people think that homework is necessary for students. Others believe it is a waste of time. What is your opinion?”

Model answer: “In my opinion, homework is important for students because it helps them practice what they learned in class. As far as I am concerned, homework reinforces learning and develops study habits. However, I think teachers should give reasonable amounts to avoid stress.
