Present Perfect Tense — Formation and Uses
The Present Perfect Tense is a grammatical tense used to connect the past with the present. It is widely used in English to describe past actions that have relevance to the present moment.
Formation
The Present Perfect is formed using: Subject + Have/Has + Past Participle
- Affirmative: I have visited Paris. / She has finished her homework.
- Negative: I have not (havent) seen that movie. / He has not (hasnt) eaten lunch.
- Interrogative: Have you ever been to London? / Has she called you?
Uses of the Present Perfect
1. Life Experiences (Ever, Never)
We use the Present Perfect to talk about experiences in someones life without specifying when they happened. Example: I have never tried sushi.
2. Recent Past Actions (Just)
We use just to talk about actions that happened a short time ago. Example: He has just arrived.
3. Unfinished Actions (Already, Yet)
Already is used in affirmative sentences to indicate something happened sooner than expected. Yet is used in negative sentences and questions. Example: I have already finished. / Have you finished yet?

Common time expressions used with the Present Perfect include: ever, never, already, yet, just, since, for, so far, recently.
