Consciousness and the Unconscious Freud
The discovery of the unconscious by Sigmund Freud revolutionized the understanding of the human mind.
Consciousness
The state of being aware of ones thoughts feelings and surroundings. It includes perception memory reasoning self-awareness.
The Unconscious
According to Freud the unconscious contains thoughts memories and desires that are inaccessible to consciousness but influence behavior. It includes repressed experiences and primal instincts.
The Structure of the Psyche
Id: primitive instincts pleasure principle. Ego: rational mediator reality principle. Superego: moral conscience internalized norms.
