1. Adverbs of Frequency
Adverbs of frequency tell us how often an action happens. They answer the question “How often?”
Common Adverbs of Frequency

Position in the sentence
- Before the main verb: Subject + adverb + verb. She always wakes up early.
- After the verb “to be”: Subject + to be + adverb. He is always happy.
- At the beginning or end of the sentence: Sometimes I go to the park. / I go to the park sometimes.
2. Adverbs of Manner
Adverbs of manner tell us how an action is done. They answer the question “How?”
Formation
Most adverbs of manner are formed by adding -ly to the adjective:
- Quick → quickly (بسرعة)
- Careful → carefully (بعناية)
- Quiet → quietly (بهدوء)
- Bad → badly (بشكل سيء)
- Beautiful → beautifully (بجمال)
Irregular adverbs
- Good → well (جيداً)
- Fast → fast (بسرعة – نفس الصيغة)
- Hard → hard (بجد – نفس الصيغة)
- Early → early (مبكراً)
Position in the sentence
- After the verb: She sings beautifully.
- After the object (if any): He drives his car carefully.
3. Examples
- I always do my homework. (أنا دائماً أقوم بواجباتي)
- She never eats fast food. (هي لا تأكل الوجبات السريعة أبداً)
- They speak English fluently. (هم يتحدثون الإنجليزية بطلاقة)
- He ran quickly to catch the bus. (هو ركض بسرعة للحاق بالحافلة)
4. Exercises
Exercise 1: Rewrite the sentences with the adverb in brackets
1. She gets up early. (always) → She always gets up early.
2. They play football on weekends. (sometimes) → Sometimes they play football on weekends. / They sometimes play football on weekends.
3. He speaks English. (well) → He speaks English well.
Exercise 2: Choose the correct word
1. She sings (beautiful / beautifully). → beautifully
2. He is a (careful / carefully) driver. → careful (adjective before noun)
3. They (never / always) go to school on time – they are never late! → always
4. She writes (neat / neatly). → neatly
