What are Adverbs of Frequency?
Adverbs of frequency tell us how often something happens. They answer the question “How often…?”
List of Common Adverbs of Frequency

Position of Adverbs of Frequency in a Sentence
1. After the verb “to be” (am, is, are):
Subject + am/is/are + adverb
- He is always late.
- They are never angry.
- I am usually happy.
2. Before other verbs (main verbs):
Subject + adverb + main verb
- She always wakes up early.
- I often read books.
- They never eat meat.
3. In questions and negative sentences:
- Do you often go to the park?
- I don’t always understand.
- Does she sometimes visit you?

Exercise 1: Put the adverb in the correct position.
- I get up early. (always) → I always get up early.
- She is happy. (usually) → She is usually happy.
- They play tennis. (sometimes) → They sometimes play tennis.
- He drinks coffee. (never) → He never drinks coffee.
Exercise 2: Rewrite the sentences with the correct adverb.
- I brush my teeth before bed. (100%) → I always brush my teeth before bed.
- My father cooks dinner. (50%) → My father sometimes cooks dinner.
- We watch TV after school. (90%) → We usually watch TV after school.
- They eat snakes. (0%) → They never eat snakes.
Exercise 3: Make questions.
- you / often / go to the cinema? → Do you often go to the cinema?
- she / sometimes / visit her grandparents? → Does she sometimes visit her grandparents?
- they / always / do their homework? → Do they always do their homework?
