The Verb “To Be”

The verb “to be” is the most important verb in English.

Present Forms

• I am (I’m) – I am a student.
• You are (You’re) – You are kind.
• He/She/It is (He’s/She’s/It’s) – She is a teacher.
• We are (We’re) – We are friends.
• They are (They’re) – They are happy.

Negative

am not / is not (isn’t) / are not (aren’t)
I am not tired. She isn’t late. They aren’t here.
