The Past Simple Tense

Used for completed actions in the past.

Formation

Affirmative: Subject + past verb. Ex: I visited grandma. She went to the cinema.
Negative: Subject + did + not + base verb. Ex: I didn t watch TV.
Question: Did + subject + base verb? Ex: Did you see the film?

Regular verbs spelling

Most: +ed (played). -e: +d (liked). Consonant+y: y→i+ed (studied). CVC: double+ed (stopped).

Common irregular verbs

go→went, have→had, do→did, see→saw, eat→ate, buy→bought, take→took, make→made, come→came.

Exercises

Put verbs in past: We (visit) the museum. She (not buy) a dress. (play) they yesterday? Write about last weekend.
