Grammar: The Present Continuous Tense – English – 1st Year Middle School – Algeria

The Present Continuous Tense

Used for actions happening now, temporary situations, and future arrangements.

Formation

Affirmative: Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing. Ex: I am studying. She is reading. They are playing.
Negative: Subject + am/is/are + not + verb-ing. Ex: He isn t sleeping.
Question: Am/Is/Are + subject + verb-ing? Ex: Are you listening?

Uses

Actions now: Look! It is raining. Temporary: I am living in Algiers this month. Future arrangements: We are visiting grandma tomorrow.

Spelling rules for -ing

Most verbs: +ing (playing). -e → drop e + ing (making). CVC: double consonant + ing (running).
