Email writing is an essential skill. Different situations require different levels of formality.
I. Formal Email Structure
1. Subject line: Clear and concise.
2. Salutation: Dear Mr/Ms [Last Name], Dear Sir/Madam,
3. Body: Introduction → Purpose → Details → Request/Action.
4. Closing: Yours sincerely (if you know the name) / Yours faithfully (if you don’t).
5. Signature: Full name, position, contact info.
II. Informal Email Structure
1. Subject: Friendly but clear.
2. Salutation: Hi [Name], Dear [Name], Hello [Name],
3. Body: Friendly opening → Main message → Closing.
4. Closing: Best wishes, Best regards, Love, See you soon.
5. Signature: First name only.
III. Useful Phrases
Formal: I am writing to… / I would like to… / I would be grateful if… / Please find attached… / I look forward to hearing from you.
Informal: Just a quick note to… / I wanted to let you know… / Thanks for your email… / Hope to hear from you soon.
IV. Exercises
1. Write a formal email to a university asking for information about a course.
