Comparative and superlative forms allow us to compare people, things, and ideas.
I. Comparative Forms
Short adjectives: adjective-er + than (taller than, faster than).
Long adjectives: more + adjective + than (more beautiful than, more interesting than).
Irregular: good → better, bad → worse, far → farther/further.
II. Superlative Forms
Short adjectives: the + adjective-est (the tallest, the fastest).
Long adjectives: the most + adjective (the most beautiful, the most interesting).
Irregular: good → the best, bad → the worst, far → the farthest/furthest.
III. Special Structures
as…as (equality): “She is as tall as her brother.”
not as…as / not so…as (inferiority): “He is not as smart as his sister.”
the…the… (parallel increase): “The more you study, the more you learn.”
less…than: “This book is less interesting than that one.”
IV. Exercises
Complete the sentences with the correct comparative or superlative form:
1. Algeria is (large) than Tunisia.
2. This is (good) film I’ve ever seen.
3. She speaks English (fluently) than me.
