Knowing medical vocabulary in English is important for communication in healthcare contexts and for the Baccalaureate exam.
I. Parts of the Body
Head: hair, forehead, eye, ear, nose, mouth, tooth/teeth, tongue, chin, cheek.
Body: neck, shoulder, chest, back, stomach/abdomen, arm, elbow, wrist, hand, finger, leg, knee, ankle, foot/feet, toe.
II. Common Symptoms and Illnesses
Symptoms: headache, toothache, stomachache, fever, cough, cold, sore throat, runny nose, dizziness, nausea, fatigue.
Illnesses: flu, diabetes, asthma, allergy, infection, cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure.
III. At the Doctor’s Office
Patient: “I don’t feel well.” / “I have a pain in my chest.” / “I’ve been feeling dizzy.”
Doctor: “What’s the matter?” / “How long have you had this?” / “Let me examine you.” / “I’ll prescribe some medication.”
IV. Exercises
1. Match the symptom to the body part: headache (head), toothache (teeth), etc.
2. Role-play a dialogue between a doctor and a patient.
3. Write 5 sentences describing how you feel when you are sick.
