Talking about Ability: Can and Could
We use ‘can’ and ‘could’ to talk about abilities.
Can (present ability)
- I can swim. (أستطيع السباحة)
- She can speak two languages.
- They can’t play the guitar.
Could (past ability)
- I could run fast when I was young.
- He couldn’t read until he was 7.
Questions
- Can you ride a bike? Yes, I can.
- Could your mother cook when she was 10?
