Past Simple: Regular Verbs (1st Year MS)

Formation

Regular verbs add -ed to form the past simple.
walk → walked, play → played, study → studied

Spelling rules

• Verb ending in -e: add -d (like → liked)
• Verb ending in consonant + y: change y to i + ed (study → studied)
• Short vowel + consonant: double consonant + ed (stop → stopped)

Exercises

1. Write past: play, watch, study, stop, like
2. Complete: Yesterday I (visit) … my grandma.
