Grammar: Question Tags (3rd Year MS)

What are question tags?

Question tags are short questions at the end of a sentence. We use them to ask for confirmation.

Rules

• Positive sentence → negative tag: You are a student, aren t you?
• Negative sentence → positive tag: You aren t tired, are you?

Examples

• She is nice, isn t she?
• He can swim, can t he?
• They went home, didn t they?
• You don t like coffee, do you?

Exercises

1. Add tags: You like pizza, …?
2. Add tags: She isn t coming, …?
3. Correct: He can sing, can he?
