Describing My Family: Vocabulary and Writing Practice

Family is an important part of our lives. In this lesson, we will learn vocabulary and expressions to describe our family members.

1. Family Members Vocabulary

• Immediate family: father, mother, brother, sister, son, daughter
• Extended family: grandfather, grandmother, uncle, aunt, cousin, nephew, niece
• In-laws: father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law

2. Describing People

Physical appearance: tall, short, slim, thin, young, old, beautiful, handsome

Personality: kind, friendly, funny, smart, generous, hardworking, patient

3. Example Paragraph

“My name is Ahmed. I have a small family. There are four people in my family: my father, my mother, my sister and me. My father is a teacher. He is tall and kind. My mother is a housewife. She is beautiful and patient. My sister is 10 years old. She is funny and friendly. I love my family very much.”

4. Possessive Adjectives

• My, your, his, her, its, our, their
• Example: This is my mother. Her name is Fatima.

1. Write a paragraph describing your family (4-5 sentences).
