Colours and Shapes: Vocabulary and Descriptions

Colours and shapes are everywhere around us. In this lesson, we will learn the names of colours and shapes and how to use them in descriptions.

1. Colours

• Primary colours: red, blue, yellow
• Secondary colours: green (blue+yellow), orange (red+yellow), purple (red+blue)
• Basic colours: black, white, grey, brown, pink
• Light and dark: light blue, dark green, bright red

2. Shapes

• Circle, square, triangle, rectangle, star
• Oval, diamond, heart, cross, arrow

3. Describing Objects

• It is a red circle.
• She has a blue square box.
• I see a yellow star in the sky.
• This is a big, green triangle.

4. Questions and Answers

• What colour is your bag? It is blue.
• What shape is the table? It is rectangular.
• Is this a red apple? Yes, it is. / No, it isn’t.
