Making Suggestions: Let’s, Shall, How About

There are several ways to make suggestions in English.

1. Let’s + base verb

Let’s go to the park. Let’s watch a movie. Let’s have lunch together.

2. Shall + I/we + base verb

Shall we go out? Shall I open the window? What shall we do today?

3. How about / What about + verb-ing

How about going to the cinema? What about playing football?

4. Why don’t we + base verb

Why don’t we visit the museum? Why don’t we try this restaurant?

5. Responses

Accepting: Good idea! Yes, let’s! That sounds great! Refusing: I’m sorry, I can’t. Maybe another time.
