Phrasal Verbs

A phrasal verb = verb + preposition/adverb. The meaning changes.

Common phrasal verbs

• Get up: wake up / stand up. (I get up at 7am.)
• Look for: search. (I am looking for my keys.)
• Take off: remove clothes / leave the ground (plane). (Take off your jacket.)
• Turn on/off: start/stop. (Turn on the light.)
• Put on: wear. (Put on your coat.)
• Come back: return. (Come back soon.)
• Sit down: take a seat. (Please sit down.)
• Stand up: rise. (Stand up please.)
