Passive Voice: Present Simple

Active vs Passive

Active: The subject does the action.
Passive: The subject receives the action.

Active: The chef cooks the meal.
Passive: The meal is cooked by the chef.

Structure

Subject + am/is/are + past participle (+ by agent).

Examples

🔹 English is spoken all over the world.
🔹 The classroom is cleaned every day.
🔹 These books are written by Algerian authors.

When to use

• When the agent is unknown: My car was stolen.
• When the action is more important: The hospital was built in 2000.
