Time Expressions: For, Since, Ago
1. For (Duration)
We use for + a period of time to say how long something lasts.
“I have studied English for three years.” “She stayed for two weeks.”
For +: an hour, two days, three weeks, five months, ten years, a long time.
2. Since (Starting point)
We use since + a specific point in time to say when something started.
“I have studied English since 2020.” “She has been here since morning.”
Since +: Monday, 2020, 8 o’clock, January, last week, childhood.
3. Ago (Finished time)
We use ago with the past simple to say how long before now something happened.
“I visited Paris three years ago.” “She called me ten minutes ago.”
Ago +: two days ago, a week ago, a month ago, a year ago, long ago.
