The Past Simple: Regular and Irregular Verbs
The past simple is used to talk about completed actions in the past.
1. Regular Verbs
Add -ed to the base verb.
- play → played, walk → walked, watch → watched
- Verbs ending in -e: add -d: like → liked, dance → danced
- Verbs ending in consonant + y: -y → -ied: study → studied, cry → cried
- One syllable CVC: double last consonant: stop → stopped, plan → planned
2. Irregular Verbs
These verbs change completely. You need to memorize them.

Negative form
Subject + didn’t + base verb: “I didn’t play football.” “She didn’t go to school.”
Question form
Did + subject + base verb? “Did you see the film?” “Did he come to the party?”

2) Complete: Yesterday, I … (visit) my grandmother. She … (make) a cake. We … (have) a good time.
