The Defective Noun Weak Noun Rules

The defective noun ends with a weak letter ya or waw. Its case endings are estimated not pronounced.

Definition and Types

Defective noun: ends with ya or waw preceded by a kasra or damma. Examples: the judge the caller the highest.

Case Ending Rules

In nominative: estimated damma. In accusative: clear fatha. In genitive: estimated kasra. Example: The judge came. I saw the judge.

Analyze the following: 1) The invited guest arrived. 2) I met the judge. 3) I passed by the highest mountain.
