The Relative Pronoun and Relative Sentence
The relative pronoun connects a main sentence to a relative clause that describes an antecedent.
Definition
A relative sentence follows a definite noun and describes it. The relative pronoun agrees with the antecedent in gender number and case.
Relative Pronouns
Who masculine singular. Who feminine singular. Who dual. Who plural masculine. Who plural feminine. What that for non-humans.
The Relative Clause
Must contain a pronoun referring back to the antecedent. Example: The student who studied succeeded. The pronoun is implicit in the verb.
Exercises
Analyze: 1) The man who came is my uncle. 2) The book that I read is useful. 3) The women who visited us left.
