Present Simple: Formation and Daily Routine with Exercises
The Present Simple tense is used to express habits, general truths, and routines. Formation: Subject + verb (base form) + (s/es for he/she/it). Affirmative: I/You/We/They play – He/She/It plays. Negative: I/You/We/They do not (don’t) play – He/She/It does not (doesn’t) play. Interrogative: Do I/you/we/they play? – Does he/she/it play? Spelling rules for third person: add -s (plays, likes), add -es after o, ch, sh, x, ss (goes, watches, washes, fixes, passes), change y to ies (study→studies, but play→plays). Uses: daily routines (I wake up at 6 am), habits (She reads every day), general truths (The sun rises in the east), scheduled events (The train leaves at 8 pm). Time expressions: always, usually, often, sometimes, rarely, never, every day, on Mondays. Examples: I go to school by bus. My mother cooks delicious food. They do not play football on Fridays. Does he speak English? Short answers: Yes, I do / No, he doesn’t.
