Writing a Paragraph: Topic Sentence, Supporting Details, Concluding Sentence
A well-structured paragraph is the building block of good writing. In BAC, you need to write clear, coherent paragraphs.
Structure of a Paragraph
Topic sentence: states the main idea. Supporting sentences: develop the idea with details, examples, reasons. Concluding sentence: summarizes or restates the main idea.
Example Paragraph
“Reading is essential for students. First, it improves vocabulary and language skills. Second, it develops critical thinking and imagination. Finally, it provides knowledge about different subjects. Therefore, students should read regularly to succeed academically.”
Tips for Good Paragraphs
Unity: one main idea per paragraph. Coherence: logical flow using transition words. Completeness: enough supporting details. Length: 5-10 sentences.
BAC Exercise
Write a paragraph (8-10 lines) about: “The importance of learning English in Algeria.” Use a clear topic sentence, at least 3 supporting details, and a concluding sentence.
