Expressing Opinions, Agreement and Disagreement
Being able to express your opinion and respond to others’ opinions is a key communication skill. In discussions and debates, you need to express agreement or disagreement politely.
Asking for Opinions
What do you think about…? In your opinion,…? How do you feel about…? What’s your view on…? Do you agree with…?
Expressing Opinions
In my opinion,… / I think that… / I believe that… / It seems to me that… / As far as I’m concerned,… / From my point of view,… / Personally, I think…
Agreement
I agree completely. / You’re absolutely right. / That’s exactly what I think. / I couldn’t agree more. / That’s a good point. / I think so too.
Disagreement (Polite)
I see your point, but… / I’m not sure I agree. / That’s one way to look at it, but… / I respect your opinion, but… / I’m afraid I disagree. / Actually, I think differently.
Exercise
Prepare arguments for and against: ‘Social media is harmful for teenagers.’ Present your opinion and respond to counter-arguments.
