Phrasal Verbs for Daily Life
Phrasal verbs are combinations of a verb + a preposition or adverb. They have special meanings. Learning common phrasal verbs is essential for natural English.
Daily Routine Phrasal Verbs
Wake up: stop sleeping. ‘I wake up at 6 AM.’ Get up: get out of bed. ‘I get up at 6:15.’ Get dressed: put on clothes. ‘I get dressed after breakfast.’ Turn on/off: start/stop a device. ‘Please turn on the lights.’
Household Phrasal Verbs
Clean up: make clean. ‘I clean up my room.’ Pick up: lift or collect. ‘Pick up your toys.’ Put away: place in the correct spot. ‘Put away your clothes.’ Look for: search. ‘I’m looking for my keys.’ Throw away: discard. ‘Throw away the rubbish.’
School Phrasal Verbs
Hand in: submit. ‘Hand in your homework.’ Write down: note. ‘Write down the new words.’ Find out: discover. ‘Find out the answer.’ Go over: review. ‘Let’s go over the lesson.’
