Food and Cooking Vocabulary
Food vocabulary is essential for daily life. Knowing the names of ingredients, cooking utensils, and cooking methods helps you follow recipes and talk about meals.
Food Categories
Fruits: apple, banana, orange, grape, strawberry, watermelon, dates. Vegetables: potato, tomato, onion, carrot, lettuce, cucumber, pepper, aubergine. Meat: chicken, beef, lamb, fish, turkey. Dairy: milk, cheese, yoghurt, butter, cream. Grains: rice, pasta, bread, couscous, wheat.
Cooking Methods
Boil, fry, roast, bake, grill, steam, microwave. Example: ‘I boil the eggs for breakfast.’ ‘My mother fries the fish in olive oil.’
Kitchen Utensils
Knife, fork, spoon, plate, bowl, cup, glass, pan, pot, oven, fridge, blender, mixer, cutting board. Example: ‘Cut the vegetables with a knife on the cutting board.’
