Writing a Short Story
A short story is a brief fictional narrative. It has a clear structure: beginning (introduction), middle (development), and end (resolution).
Structure of a Short Story
1- Beginning: introduce the characters, setting (time and place), and the situation. 2- Middle: present the problem or conflict, and the events that happen. 3- End: resolve the problem and conclude the story.
Useful Vocabulary
Characters: hero, villain, friend, stranger, king, princess, wizard. Time: once upon a time, one day, suddenly, finally, in the end. Actions: walked, ran, jumped, opened, found, discovered, shouted, whispered. Feelings: happy, sad, scared, excited, surprised, angry.
Tips for Writing
Use the past simple tense. Add dialogue with quotation marks. Describe the characters and places with adjectives. Keep the story simple and clear.
Exercise
Write a short story of 8-10 sentences. Start with ‘Once upon a time…’ Include a character, a problem, and a happy ending.
