Used to report what someone said without quoting exactly.
Tense changes
- Present → Past
- Present Continuous → Past Continuous
- Past Simple → Past Perfect
- Present Perfect → Past Perfect
- Will → Would
- Can → Could
- Must → Had to
Other changes
now→then, today→that day, yesterday→the day before, tomorrow→the next day, here→there
