Word Order in English Sentences
English follows a strict word order: Subject + Verb + Object (SVO). Adverbs and other elements follow specific patterns.
Basic word order
SVO: Subject + Verb + Object. Example: She (S) reads (V) books (O).
Questions: Auxiliary + Subject + Verb. Do you like coffee?
Negatives: Subject + Auxiliary + not + Verb. She does not smoke.
Adverb positions
Adverbs of frequency: before main verb. She always arrives on time.
Adverbs of manner: after verb (or after object if there is one). He spoke quietly.
Adverbs of place: after verb. The book is here.
Adverbs of time: at the end or beginning. Yesterday, I went to school.
