Quantifiers: Some, Any, Much, Many, A lot of, Few, Little

Quantifiers in English

Quantifiers indicate the quantity of something. They are used with countable and uncountable nouns.

Some / Any

Some: affirmative sentences, offers, requests. I have some friends. Would you like some coffee?

Any: negative sentences, questions. I don’t have any money. Do you have any questions?

Much / Many / A lot of

Much: uncountable nouns (usually negative/interrogative). There isn’t much water.

Many: countable nouns. There are many students.

A lot of: both countable and uncountable (affirmative). There are a lot of people.

Few / Little

Few (countable): a few = some, few = not many. A few books / Few books.

Little (uncountable): a little = some, little = not much. A little sugar / Little sugar.
