There is / There are: Affirmative, Negative, Questions
We use there is and there are to say that something exists.
1. Affirmative
There is (singular/uncountable): There is a book on the table. There is some water in the glass.
There are (plural): There are two cats in the garden. There are many students in the class.
2. Negative
There isn’t (is not): There isn’t any milk in the fridge.
There aren’t (are not): There aren’t any chairs in the room.
3. Questions
Is there + singular noun? Is there a mosque near here?
Are there + plural noun? Are there any parks in the city?
4. Short Answers
Yes, there is/are. No, there isn’t/aren’t.
5. Exercises
Complete: _____ a school near my house. _____ any students in the classroom? _____. No, there _____.
