Demonstratives: This, That, These, Those
Demonstrative words point to specific people or things.
1. This (singular, near)
For something close in distance or time. This is my book. This lesson is easy.
2. That (singular, far)
For something far in distance or time. That is a car. That day was special.
3. These (plural, near)
For things close. These are my friends. These books are new.
4. Those (plural, far)
For things far. Those are mountains. Those students are in 4th year.
5. Usage with nouns
- This book = the book near me
- That book = the book far from me
- These books = books near me
- Those books = books far from me
6. Exercises
Complete: _____ (near/singular) is my pencil. _____ (far/plural) are our teachers.
