Comparatives and Superlatives

Comparatives

Used to compare two things.

• Short adjectives: adjective + er + than. (tall -> taller than)
• Long adjectives: more + adjective + than. (beautiful -> more beautiful than)
• Irregular: good -> better, bad -> worse, far -> farther

Superlatives

Used to compare three or more things.

• Short adjectives: the + adjective + est. (tall -> the tallest)
• Long adjectives: the most + adjective. (beautiful -> the most beautiful)
• Irregular: good -> the best, bad -> the worst

Examples

🔹 Ali is taller than Ahmed.
🔹 This book is more interesting than that one.
🔹 She is the best student in the class.
