Past Simple: Verb To Be (was/were)

The past simple of ‘to be’ is used to talk about states and identities in the past.

1. Affirmative

I/He/She/It was. We/You/They were.
Example: I was at school yesterday. They were happy.

2. Negative

I/He/She/It was not (wasn’t). We/You/They were not (weren’t).
Example: She wasn’t at home. We weren’t late.

3. Questions

Was I? Were you?
Example: Were you at the party? Was he your teacher?
