Connectors of Contrast: Although, Despite, However

Connectors of contrast are used to show unexpected results or differences between two ideas.

1. Although + clause

Although it was raining, we went out. Although she is young, she is very mature.

2. Despite / In spite of + noun/-ing

Despite the rain, we went out. In spite of being tired, she finished her work.

3. However (linking two sentences)

It was raining. However, we went out.
