Future Continuous and Future Perfect
These two future tenses allow us to talk about actions in progress at a specific time in the future (Future Continuous) or actions that will be completed by a certain time in the future (Future Perfect).
Future Continuous
Formation: Subject + will be + verb-ing
Uses:
- An action in progress at a specific time in the future: ‘This time tomorrow, I will be flying to London.’
- Predictions about the present: ‘He won’t be coming to the party.’
- Polite questions about plans: ‘Will you be joining us for dinner?’
Future Perfect
Formation: Subject + will have + past participle
Uses:
- An action that will be completed by a certain time in the future: ‘By 2028, I will have graduated from university.’
- With time expressions: by, by the time, before, in (time period).
Examples
- I will be studying at 8 PM tonight.
- She will have finished the project by Friday.
- They will be waiting for us when we arrive.
- By next year, he will have worked here for 10 years.
Exercise
Choose the correct tense: 1. This time next week, I (will travel / will be traveling) to Mecca. 2. By 2030, she (will finish / will have finished) her PhD. 3. Don’t call at 6 PM, I (will have / will be having) dinner. 4. I hope I (will pass / will have passed) the exam by the end of the year.
