Daily Routine describes the things we do every day. In this lesson, we will learn the vocabulary for daily activities and how to talk about our routines using the Simple Present tense. This is suitable for 1st Year Middle School students following the Algerian curriculum.
1. Vocabulary: Daily Activities

2. Grammar: Simple Present for Routines
We use the Simple Present to talk about habits and routines.
Affirmative form:
- I / You / We / They + base verb
I wake up at 6 o’clock.
They go to school by bus. - He / She / It + verb + (e)s
He wakes up at 6 o’clock.
She goes to school by bus.
Spelling rules for He/She/It:
- Most verbs: add -s → eat → eats, play → plays
- Verbs ending in -s, -sh, -ch, -x, -o: add -es → go → goes, watch → watches, fix → fixes
- Verbs ending in consonant + y: change y to i and add -es → study → studies, fly → flies
3. Time Expressions
We use these time expressions with the Simple Present for routines:
- Every day / morning / afternoon / evening / night
- In the morning / afternoon / evening
- At night / 7 o’clock / the weekend
- On weekdays / Saturdays / Monday
- Always, usually, sometimes, never
4. Example Text: My Daily Routine
My name is Ahmed. I wake up at 6 o’clock every morning. I take a shower and brush my teeth. I have breakfast at 6:30. Then I go to school at 7 o’clock. At school, I study many subjects. I have lunch at 12:30. After school, I do my homework. In the evening, I watch TV and have dinner. I go to bed at 9 o’clock.
5. Practice Exercises
Exercise 1: Put the verbs in brackets in the correct form.
- I ________ (wake up) at 6 o’clock every day.
- She ________ (go) to school by bus.
- They ________ (play) football after school.
- He ________ (study) English every evening.
- We ________ (have) dinner at 7:30.
- My mother ________ (cook) delicious meals.
- You ________ (do) your homework every day.
- Ali ________ (brush) his teeth after breakfast.
Exercise 2: Write the correct time expression. Choose from: every day, in the morning, at night, on weekdays.
- I go to school ________ (Monday to Friday).
- She brushes her teeth ________ (each day).
- He sleeps ________ (during the night).
- They have breakfast ________ (in the early hours).
- We watch TV ________ (each evening).
6. Home Activity
Write a short paragraph (5-7 sentences) about your daily routine. Use the Simple Present tense and time expressions. Start with “My name is…”
