Conditionals Type 1 and 2: If Clauses

Conditional sentences express a condition and its result. There are different types for real and unreal situations.

1. Type 1: Real Conditional (Possible)

If + present simple, will + base verb. If it rains, I will stay home. This is used for real or possible situations in the future.

2. Type 2: Unreal Conditional (Improbable)

If + past simple, would + base verb. If I had money, I would travel. This is used for imaginary or unlikely situations.

3. Important Notes

• In Type 2, we use were for all subjects: If I were you, I would study.
• The comma is used when the if-clause comes first.

1. If she (study), she will pass the exam.
2. If I (be) rich, I would buy a big house.
3. What _____ you (do) if you saw a ghost?
