Direct and Indirect Objects: Transitive and Intransitive Verbs
Transitive Verbs
Need an object to complete meaning: She bought a car. He ate an apple.
Intransitive Verbs
Do not need an object: She sleeps. The baby cried. He arrived.
Direct Object
Receives the action directly: I read a book. She wrote a letter.
Indirect Object
Receives the action indirectly: I gave him a gift. She told me the news.
