Articles: a, an, the – Definite and Indefinite
Indefinite Articles (a/an)
a + consonant: a book, a car.
an + vowel: an apple, an hour (h muet).
Used for: singular countable nouns, first mention, professions.
Definite Article (the)
Used for: specific things, second mention, unique things, superlatives, ordinal numbers.
Ex: “The sun is bright.” “He is the best.” “The first chapter.”
Zero Article
Used for: plural general nouns, uncountable nouns, meals, sports, proper names.
Ex: “I like books.” “She plays tennis.” “I had breakfast.”
