The Past Perfect
Formation: had + past participle. Use: to show which action happened first in the past. Ex: When I arrived, the film had already started. (first: film started, second: I arrived). Signal words: already, just, never, ever, before, after, by the time, until. Negative: had not (hadn t) + V3. Question: Had + subject + V3?
